The Road Less Traveled

For everyone graduating this month, please consider these famous lines penned by Robert Frost: “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” What it is it saying? That there is not one clear path, but that there are multiple paths to get to your goal. Pretty simple, right? Or is it?! Transitioning into the adult world is quite a challenge. Half of your friends already have jobs and you are still searching, or else you have a job that’s completely unsatisfying. I’m here to tell you that it is completely okay. There are very few women who get their dream job after college. Out of everyone I know, only one person secured a job in her field after thousands of emails and countless unpaid internships.

"Please do not beat yourself up if you are unhappy with your job or do not have a job yet. Your path is being forged."

You may not realize it but every decision that you make is leading you towards to your goal. When I graduated college, I had the hardest time finding a job. I took a front desk job and it wasn’t my speed. I used to write lists of things I would rather be doing, or write down ideas for blog posts and recipes. Those recipes inspired me to attend culinary school.

It motivated me to look for another job in a food-related field. Soon enough, I found another job that paid better and allowed me to better my knowledge in the food. I am not where I want to be but I’m one step closer to where I want to be. I followed the less charted path, full of twists and turns but it’s allowed me to learn so much about myself and what I want to do. I don’t regret a second of it. You won’t either, I promise.

They’re so many different paths you can follow to get to your goals, so please don’t get frustrated if you cannot take a direct path. Most people take a different path, so enjoy your journey, you never know where you might end up.
