The New Year
This time last year I was visiting some friends in Miami. Among them was one of the women who was helping me with the design for what was going to eventually be La Femme Collective. I remember I didn’t want to bring it up too much because I didn’t want to constantly talk about it on vacation, but at the same time I wanted to constantly talk about it because I was so excited, so unaware of what the future would hold for me and the rest of the LFC team.
Fast forward to now, and here I am, across the country from my home and my family, on a new journey in my life that I’m not sure I ever thought I would take. La Femme Collective has taken me to places I never thought I would go, introduced me to women I never thought I would meet, and pushed me in ways I never thought I would be challenged. I’ve learned how to manage a team; and, I’ve also learned how to work alongside a team who without them LFC would be nothing. We have all learned what it’s like to build something from the ground up, something that we’re all so very passionate about. And, I couldn’t be more grateful that I got to do this with all of them. My life has been so drastically changed for the better through LFC. As much as I have my team to thank, it also would be nothing without all of you. I have met so many amazing women who have taken an active role in the LFCommunity. You are the women who have taught me to research when I maybe would have just believed something I read on Twitter. You are the women who have taught me to take on my dreams head on and give them a shot. You are the women who are inspiring a new generation. LFC would be nothing without all of you, and for that I cannot thank you enough. I hope 2017 brings us nothing but leaps forward in the movement towards gender equality for all races. I hope 2017 brings us happiness and good health. And most importantly, I hope 2017 brings us more dream-chasers, ready to challenge the status-quo whenever it needs challenging, and stand up for what they believe in.
Never stop believing in yourself. Thank you again for a magical 2016.

It's been such an awesome year, one that has changed my life for sure. I wanted to share a bit of advice of a few things I've learned through being a part of LFC.
1 - People you've never met can instantly become your best friends and those who are there for you when no one else has been.
2 - Say yes to every opportunity and you'll find time and figure it out. LFC has been such an amazing experience and there's only more to come. I had no idea, when Nora asked me to help on social for the site, all of the awesome things that would come from this in just one years time. I've learned so much from so many badass women day after day and met some great friends i'll have for life.
3 - Badass women are all around to root you on. Reach out, respond, and take time to learn from the women around you and be there for them when they need cheering on to. It's the best feeling rooting each other on in both your professional and personal lives.
Cheers to the best 2016! Start 2017 as you mean to go on, I'll be starting it on a high note with the most positive outlook! See you in the new year!

“We all move forward
when we recognize how resilient
and striking the women
around us are”
“I like the way the stretch marks
on my thighs look human and
that we’re so soft yet
rough and jungle wild
when we need to be
I love that about us
how capable we are of feeling
how unafraid we are of breaking
and tend to our wounds with grace
just being a woman
makes me utterly whole
When reflecting on this past year and LFC’s birth, these two poems from “milk and honey” by Rupi Kaur come to mind. I’d like to think that we have celebrated many women by sharing their stories here. If we have been able to bring comfort to anyone that may have felt completely alone, that itself is a success. I’m truly looking forward to exploring more opportunities for LFC in the next year and hope to inspire women all over the world to go after exactly what they want in life.

You may notice that your life has changed over the course of a year, or even a month, but it's small changes and choices you make on a daily basis that move you forward.
I met the women of LFC when I decided to take a chance. I made the decision that I wanted more out of my career and that decision became a "must" in my life, not just a "want". A simple email hurled me into a world of amazing women who have more drive and determination than I had ever seen before.
They taught me to always strive for more. Be happy and congratulate yourself on where you are and where you have been, but look forward with a hunger for what is to come next.
I can look back over the past year and see how much I have grown by being honest with myself and constructive about the things I do want to change. Reacquainting yourself with who / where you are vs who you want to be can be a challenge, but it doesn't have to be difficult. LFC is a place that puts the fun back into "growing up" and discovering your place in the world.
Every day may be the day that changes your life. You may not know it at the time so slow down and enjoy every new person you meet and appreciate the friends and family that support you. When you aren't just looking for an opportunity to move your career forward, but rather an opportunity to be happier, healthier, and more fulfilled, you will start to see opportunity in every moment.
Also, laughter and cheese are the best medicine in life. Cheers to the New Year. We can't want to learn and grow with you all in 2017.
