How do I spread the word about my new project?

"My friends and I decided to start a blog on Instagram, named SPARKbyTHREE. A blog that embraces being different, being imperfect and being damn proud about it. A blog that shows people what it’s like to live a normal life and to proof that a normal life can be just as fun as any other. But we’re just starting up. So my question to you, as one #entrefemmeur to another, how did you do it? How did you start up your website? How did you spread the word?" -Nathalie Franckaerts

Nora: La Femme Collective launched March 8th 2016. However, the inception of La Femme Collective was a bit before that - it was in October of 2015. I wrote a piece on what it was like to build and launch LFC which you can read here, but there was definitely more to it than that.

Building something like LFC, or in your case SPARKbyTHREE, is definitely something that takes a lot of trial and error. You’ll learn who your audience is when you first start out, but that will change. You’ll learn who you want to target, but that may also change. You’ll see what type of posts do well with your viewers, but you’ll also see what type of posts sit better with you. It is all such a learning process. I have definitely not mastered the art of running a website, but that’s also what makes it fun (part of the time at least)! Each day I get to learn something new, whether it be from a reader, a woman we featured, or one of my team members.

In terms of spreading the word, I am very lucky to have an awesome team of women next to me who used their own voices to also help share. There’s power in numbers so between the six of us networking and non-stop talking about LFC, we managed to create some buzz around it during the launch. However, there are a lot of other ways to spread the word! Hashtagging on social media is a great way to join in on certain topics or discussions. I sent an email to over 50 friends and family on our launch day explaining who we are, what we aim to do, and where they could find us.

My biggest takeaway for growing a company is really just to talk. Talk about what you’re working on to anyone who will listen (and doesn’t look like they want to punch you in the face while listening). Share with family and friends. You never know who they’ll tell. Share with strangers online - even though sometimes they’re not the nicest, there’s also ones who are so friendly and so engaging!
